Ocean Park 海洋公園

Visitors to Ocean Park can access the park directly from the MTR station, making transportation very convenient, without having to transfer to other modes of transportation. Exit B is the main entrance to the park.

Ocean Park is one of the two theme parks in Hong Kong. It was built in 1977 and has a long history of nearly 50 years. In the early days, it was most famous for the performances of various marine animals in the Ocean Theater, including dolphins and killer whales.

Before reaching the cable car station, you’ll pass a small nursery with sloths and small snakes.

Before the entrance of the cable car, you will pass by an old Hong Kong street, which is a model of 1950s to 1970s, with rickshaws, trams, and shops. Some small shops have been rented out and mainly sell street snacks.

The Summit Cable Cars

If you go to the top of the mountain to play amusement rides, there are various roller coasters and stall games. Riding the cable car is a must-do at Ocean Park, not only for its stunning views of the mountaintop, but also for its magnificent sea views of southern part of Hong Kong. Taking the cable cars to the summit can take around 15 minutes.

However, be aware that the waiting time for the or summit / descent can exceed 15 minutes, so be prepared with an umbrella, hat, sunblock and water.

Pacific Pier is a small sea lion exhibition hall.

The Ocean Theater still has performances with the theme of environmental protection, educating people not to throw plastic waste into the sea. It replaced the previous dolphin and killer whale performances. It is now called Dolphin Explorations.

There are a total of 4 dolphins, which perform as part of the final performance of the play. Ocean Park once had killer whale shows, but after the death of the killer whale named Hai Wei in 1997, the government stopped purchasing or training killer whales.

Globally, due to opposition from conservationists, the long-term captivity of some marine animals has impacted their lives and moods.

The Shark Mystique (Shark Hall) is a relatively complete exhibition hall, with sharks of all sizes. It is also themed on protecting marine life: do not buy shark fins or kill sharks.

Ocean Park’s Halloween Events

Halloween is coming soon this year, and Ocean Park will also have activities starting at the end of October, namely 10-12, 17-19, 24-26, 29, 31 and November 1-2, 2025. So, keep an eye on the dates, as events don’t run every night.

The venue is full of decorations, and those brightly colored skulls you see are there.

Although they are a bit scary and strange, they are also part of the decoration.

On the ground floor, there’s a panda hall called The Hong Kong Jockey Club Sichuan Treasures where you can visit two giant pandas: An An and Ke Ke.

There are only two restaurants available at the summit. One is a fast-food restaurant. If you want to order lunch, there are around ten items, such as Indian chicken curry fried rice and Portuguese chicken rice. The rest of the menu consisted of noodles and snacks. The price was $98, with no hot drinks, only soda or soft drinks. There is an air-conditioned room nearby.

Bottled water was $24, which was purchased separately. The menu was pre-cooked rice and other dishes. The other restaurant was the Tuxedos Restaurant. The meal for two was over $300. It had a limited selection, only a two-page menu, but hot drinks were available. The third restaurant was closed for renovation. So, if possible, grab some lunch on the ground floor before getting on the cable car.

There is a McDonald’s restaurant on the top of the mountain, right next to the Shark Hall. It is a small shop with no seats, but there are water dispensers and toilets next to it. The coffee is around $30 and hot milk tea for $24. You need to walk for about 15 minutes to get there, next to those stall games.
