Tai Hang Fire Dragon Dance Parade is one of the hottest events in Hong Kong. Every year in October, this event attracts thousands of people coming to Tai Hang.

It has a history of 140 years. At that time, many people were infected with diseases. It was said that dancing for three consecutive days could drive away one of the plagues. Later, it became a tradition and also a part of Hong Kong culture. It is a most-see attraction for tourists.

What is a Fire Dragon? 200 people dancing a dragon with longevity incense burning on its body. The Dragon is 67 meters long and made of clay. The procession begins 15 minutes before the start, with incense sticks tucked into the dragon’s body. The route begins at Wun Sha Street.



The fire dragon dance will circle the surrounding area. If you’re visiting on the first or second day, there will be crowds everywhere. If you want to take photos, arrive before 6:30 pm and stand in the second row. Those in the first row arrive around 5 or 6 pm, mostly photographers, some bringing their own ladders or stools. Tip: If you don’t want a tripod, a selfie stick is also a good option. This, along with a phone, will allow you to get clear shots of the fire dragon from above the first row of spectators.
There’s a public restroom nearby, which was relatively clean. The temperature that night was around 30 degrees Celsius, and the two-hour wait wasn’t particularly pleasant. If you go there to see the fire dragon dance, the t-shirt your wear may get soaked, and need to bring two 500ml bottles of water. Finally, be careful, as the crowds will follow the fire dragon, and there’s bound to be some jostling and jostling. You need to be patient; it’s part of the Hong Kong experience.
This year’s Fire Dragon Dance will be held from October 5 to 7, 2025 at around 7pm to 10pm, and will last for three consecutive days, moving from Wun Sha Street in Tai Hang to Causeway Bay Road.
