Sam Tung Uk means “three halls’ house”, if it is translated directly. The entire exhibition is housed within a walled village.

This type of building, only found in the 1970s and 1980s, is a two-story house with an open-plan layout and a wooden staircase leading to the second level. The upper level typically houses a bed for sleeping, while the lower level serves as the living room and kitchen.

The village is divided into rooms, each with a theme, introducing a specific exhibit, which tells the story and origins. Staffs are on hand to explain the history of the exhibits.

Historical Background
Chan’s family was living in Fujian and then moved to Guangdong in Mainland China. After that, they migrated to Tsuen Wan in mid-18th century and settled in there. They played a role in the development of Tsuen Wan and became a part of population. Sam Tung Uk was the place of settlement. The living rooms of Sam Tung Uk, which were mostly two-story houses, and tiled roofs (the grey triangle-shape roofs) were parts of architectural style besides walled village.
The exhibition is open until 6:00 PM. Another point worth noting is that the museum has ample air conditioning, making it a great place to relax.
