Background

The Hong Kong Avenue of Stars was built in 2003 and opened in 2005. In 2018, it underwent renovations by American landscape architecture firm James Corner Field Operations (JCFO), British lighting design firm Speirs & Major, and local design team LAAB.

The Hong Kong Avenue of Stars, modeled after the Hollywood Boulevard in the United States, honors Hong Kong’s outstanding artists. The bronze statues, in addition to McDull and Bruce Lee, also feature Anita Mui, honoring their achievements in animation, martial arts films, and acting and singing.

Currently, there are 115 metal handprints, but the Avenue of Stars is projected to increase this to 1,000.

According to James Corner, their design concept is that the Bruce Lee statue standing on the flowing cascade pool represents his Jeet Kune Do philosophy of “Be Water”.
In addition, Anita Mui is not only an excellent singer, but also an actress who debuted in Hong Kong. McDull represents the Hong Kong animation industry, so he also has a golden statue.
