Background of the International Finance Centre

The International Finance Centre (One IFC One) was completed in 1996, and the second phase (Two IFCs) was completed and opened in 2003.

IFC is a renowned landmark in the global financial world. It has a total area of 436,000 square meters, with 88 floors above ground and 6 below.

According to online information, the first and second phases in the 1990s involved a total investment of HK$23 billion, averaging HK$2,000 per square foot.

American architect Cesar Pelli is also the architect behind architectural works such as the Petronas Twin Towers, Brookfield Place, and Cira Centre in Malaysia. The project was designed by Hong Kong architect Rocco Yim Sen Kee.

According to Pelli, the design of Two IFC represents the entrance to Victoria Harbour, with the building’s crown-like shape symbolizing a welcome to visitors from all over the world to Hong Kong, a metropolis where Eastern and Western cultures blend.

Rocco’s design concept, on the other hand, is to create a transparent, flowing space that uses natural light to guide high-traffic commuters.
